Shore Lines

December 6, 2012

In-between building Bob’s touring bike, i’ve been building a commuter which is coming along nicely. Here are some shots of the Lugs after a soak to remove the flux, wire brushing around the shorelines, a surface cleanup and some 240 grit emery around the edges in some areas to remove some silver that had wet-out on the tube surface where I added it into the lug.

Bob’s Touring Bike PT-II

December 5, 2012

Progress has been made on Bob’s touring bike but he was booked to come in to see me about a week ago to finalise some fit details but he couldnt make it because of a back injury so i’ve been getting other things done on other bikes while I wait. There are a bunch of photos of what I’ve done so far in the flickr set. One of my favourite parts to braze when building a bike is the rear dropouts, especially the more traditional flat plate dropouts, where the chainstay and seatstay are slotted. They are a lot more laborious to work with than some of the more modern plug-in style dropouts but definitely a whole lot more satisfying once they’re complete. Yeah… more dropouts!

Bob’s Touring Bike

November 14, 2012

With John’s big touring frame complete it’s time to move on to Bob’s one, this time a little smaller I’m using Llewellyn lugs on this one and modifying them a little. First thing was to grab the lugs, inspect them and start planning. I started by modifying the seat lug, I trimmed and re-shaped the bottom line around the back of the seat tube and made a cutout in the point which will be on the top of the top tube, i’ll be making the same style of cutout in the points of both of the head tube lugs too.

John’s Fork

November 13, 2012

John’s Touring frame is ready to go, all I need to do is finish off a few small details on the fork and it’ll all be ready to be sent off to paint. John’s particularly partial to British Racing Green so i’ve whipped up a few ideas for the colour scheme.

Phil’s Touring Bike Complete

November 13, 2012

I finished Phil’s touring bike a little while ago and the images are now up on Flickr and in my Portfolio. This bike replaced Phil’s old touring bike which most of the parts came from, around the same time as I built this frame he also bought another new bike of another brand. He came in to see me the other day and was extremely happy with the Caldera, he says this is the most comfortable bike that he’s ridden and that it’s better than his past touring bikes and the other new bike …that’s what I like to hear! For sale – My cyclocross bike

August 11, 2012

Since I haven’t had any/much time to ride my cyclocross bike i’ve decided to sell it. When i have room for another bike and when I can justify having a CX bike I will build another. Having it sit around, unridden is just not doing it justice – it needs to be ridden!. The bike is in mint condition, the paint looks almost as good as the day I bought it back from the painter, the gearing hasn’t even been fully broken in, the wheel bearings where re-packed when new with good quality, waterproof grease, the tyres are un-worn. The bike will be fully serviced, checked and cleaned before sold. You can see most of the spec in the photos. Top tube size is 540mm. Shimano Ultegra groupset, Shimano RS80 C50 wheels, Paul components canti’s, Ritchey WCS bar stem & post, Fizik Arione saddle, fizik bar tape, jagwire cable kit, Maxxis Raze tyres, Alpha-Q CX 20 fork. The frame is lightweight Columbus Life with Dedacciai stays and a custom cut lug set. I’m asking $4000…

David’s Road Bike

July 7, 2012

I love getting feedback about the bikes, it’s super motivating and after all of the hard work it’s very validating to hear that the handling and feel of the bike that I created by following my own design sense has worked out for the customer. “Very impressive bike. Just as I hoped it would be – comfortable but precise; great handling – feels secure but still sharp; climbs great and feels really stiff.” Click for the portfolio page for David’s bike
