To be added to the Caldera Cycles waiting list please contact me with a brief description of the bike you’d like to walk away with. The waiting list length varies depending on how many frames are in the queue and the complexity of each of them so if you’d like to know more or be added to the list, please contact me.
First of all we will discuss the most important aspect of your new bike – fit.
We will take a series of measurements, fit you to your bike or a fit-cycle. If you have a favorite bike that fits you particularly well, I’d like to see it too.
Ideally I would like to do this in person but if this isn’t possible I will send a form for you to complete with the required fit dimensions.
We will also discuss various other things about yourself, the way you ride and what you want & need from your custom Caldera.
When planning your bike, we will discuss colour options, based on this I will provide mock-ups of colour scheme ideas for you to choose from. Alternatively go for the ‘surprise me’ route, After speaking with you, planning your bike and getting to know you a little I’ll come up with a custom paint job that I think will suit both you and your bike.
If you would like to choose a specific colour, the best way to do this is either find your colour on a car and give me the details (make, model and year) or send a sample of the colour you’re after on paper, fabric, etc.
Before building goes ahead I will need a deposit to top-up the initial waiting list deposit to 50% of the agreed total price. Once the design has been agreed upon and the 50% deposit has been received I will begin building your frame.
The time to actually build a frame (and fork) varies greatly depending on how labor intensive the build is. I will inform you approximately how long this will take before I go ahead. I also try to keep in contact as much as possible while building your frame by sending updates and posting process photos in the Caldera Cycles Journal and on Flickr.
Your frame will be sent to my painter who is one of the very few bike painters in New Zealand, and as far as I’m concerned he’s the best. The time-frame for painting can be anywhere from 4, up to 6 weeks depending on our painters’ schedule, time of year and complexity of the paint job. This might sound like a long time but ensures that the painter has ample time to complete the job at a top level, as well as allowing time for the paint to fully cure.
While your frame is with the painter I’ll prepare the parts and groupset and if necessary, get wheels built ahead of time while we’re waiting. I’ll also calculate the final bill and send an invoice for the balance owing, this is to be paid before the bike is shipped or upon collection of the bike.
Once your frame arrives back from paint it will be prepped and I will assemble the bike with your selection of parts.
Every Caldera bike is different and each is custom built for it’s owner which means that pricing varies a lot depending on the specifics or your custom build.
I only offer full complete bike builds as this allows me to ensure total component integration and the best aesthetics of the bike as a whole.
Frames are generally priced anywhere between $2750 and $3500
Forks from $200-600 with a custom frame
Complete builds usually start around $5000
Payment is accepted by Cash, Cheque (allowing for clearing time), Direct deposit into my NZ bank account or credit card via Pay Pal.
